CF Beauty: winter daytime skincare – with Clarins and L’Oreal

Things have gone REALLLLLY wrong for me on the skin front over the last month. First I got the mother of all colds – cue red, chapped nose/lips and dark, dark eyebags – then to top things off a chest infection that, three weeks later, doesn’t seem to want to shift. All these germs seem to have taken quite a toll on my skin. My face in general is super dry and flaky and dull, with almost eczema-type patches around my cheeks. Not a good look for the festive season.

So, wrapped up to the nines and coughing all the way, I took myself off to Boots and back to the drawing board when it came to my skincare.

I needed something to boost my complexion from grey and dull to glowy and light, and also a day cream that would be kind and nourishing and gentle on my dry, miserable skin.

Cue L’Oreal Paris’ Skin Perfection advanced correcting serum (it’s currently £11.33 instead of £16.99). It is a super light-weight water-based formula, so sinks in easily and is designed to ‘even out imperfections, including uneven skin tone, enlarged pores and boost hydration’. I’m not sure I’ve seen a vast difference in pore size or exactly what ‘imperfections’ it is meant to even out (it certainly has made no difference to any blemishes) but I do see a clarity and brightening of my skin and an overall softening and balancing of the dry/oily areas. Which is quite a result.

On top of this I have been slathering Clarins Multi-Active Day Cream (£40)- which is brilliantly dubbed as being for ‘early wrinkle correction’. Ha. As I have hit 30s I am slowly ramping up my ‘wrinkle control’ products and this is certainly age appropriate in its ingredients and level of treatment. I think any wrinkles I have at the moment are down to dehydration and lack of sleep. This certainly plumps and softens, making my skin feel soft and cossetted. Imagine a really luxe-y Ponds cold cream and you’ve got the texture. It smells very comforting too.

Other than that I have been double-cleansing with my beloved Elemis duo of Rehydrating Rosepetal cream cleanser and pro-collagen balm and twice weekly I’ve been sleeping in a thick layer of Origins Drink Up Intensive mask that I SWEAR by for serious re-hydration.

Fingers crossed my skin gets back on track before the 25th!
