The countryfille.com blog can be neatly split into two halves – the first (launched in August 2011) where I set out to keep a digital scrapbook of our move to Devon, after ditching our glitzy London lives (me mag editor, husband 4th generation of Italian restaurant empire). To the second half – now – where I’m emerging, blinking out the other side of a 3-year nightmare of caring for my terminally ill parents (yes both), losing them and grieving for them. I’m still working on the last part.
So, how to continue? Do I carry on as before, waffling on about our jolly country pursuits and my favourite new lippie?
Well, as with all new chapters, I intend to leave the past in the past (all previous posts are still archived on the blog for posterity), and start anew. Countryfille has taken somewhat of a continental bent, (who knew the name would be so apt?!) as we have bought up our dream home in SW France, a rambling manoir no less. Well, a girl’s got to dream big hasn’t she.
So, as I relaunch the blog six years on, it’s like it has grown and evolved with me. I was a married, child-less, girl-about-town magazine editor when I wrote my first blog post. Now I’m a mum to two young boys, have lost both parents and I’m trying to work out how to live between two countries AND forge a career as a freelance writer.
I’m still finding my blogging stride again after a hiatus, but I’m imagining you’ll find on these pages a cross-channel mash up of mamma musings, beauty tips and hauls (once a beauty ed, always a beauty ed…), travel advice with smalls, as well as a fair few posts on the renovations at the ‘French House’ (who doesn’t love a bit of property porn?!) and candid updates on how we are finding our feet in rural France… hint, I’m on first-name terms with the lady in the pharmacy who is possibly as big a skincare obsessive as I am… Priorities.
So subscribe, find me on social media, comment on posts – let me know you’re out there! Don’t be a lurker, say hi, it would make my day…
