CF.com is by no means a fashion blog, but what with the rain whipping at the windows, a soothing butternut squash risotto on the stove and the advent of the Brora sale (nothing says ‘goodbye summer’ more than cashmere cardis), this afternoon my mind has begun to wander to thoughts of my autumn wardrobe. Namely the need for a good pair of ankle boots.
As this will be my first autumn a/ with baby in tow b/ in the country since I was a teen, my choice of footwear needs careful consideration. Yes, the mag editor in me yearns (impractically) for these Charlotte Olympia beauties:
I’m happy to invest in a good pair (probably £250, tops) as my general fashion ethos seems to be: ‘buy something ludicrously expensive and wear it till the seams come undone to justify spending a small fortune.’ On a cost-per-wear basis it’s the equivalent of shopping at Primark, just without the guilt-complex.
So, first stop: Toast. Whenever I think cosy autumn wardrobe, I think of their chambray shirt dresses, wolford tights and a cashmere boyfriend cardi.
Next up I tracked down these glorified slippers (big thumbs up for motherly comfort) by Nicole Farhi, via Kurt Geiger.
Sigh. I’m just not sure the fluff/suede combo is robust enough for my size 9s and the considerable amount of off-roading they would face. These are definitely Westbourne Grove boots.
On my shopping travels I couldn’t help snapping up these Topshop bargains just because they do what they say on the tin: The Ultimate Chelsea Boot.
They remind me of my comfy, battered jodpur boots I used to wear for riding as a child. I hope they weather as well.
Then finally, there they were. The boots I had been looking for.
