CF Travels – A weekend at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa

This weekend we’re off again. This time we’re going right to Somerset and Dorset, instead of left to Cornwall.

First stop is the parents-in-laws’ beautiful village near Yeovil in Somerset. It’s like the set of a Richard Curtis film it’s so British:

We are spending a couple of days lolling under the apple tree in the garden, reading the papers, snoozing and generally taking advantage of the in-house child entertainers (aka the doting grandparents).

Then, with an equal measure of nerves and joy, we are heading off to Dorset for our first 24 hours away from Country Bebe.

We are celebrating this particular parenting milestone (it really feels like a big step!) at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa in Dorset*.

It’s an Art Deco beauty of a place, uniquely located between the cool of the New Forest and the beauty of the Solent. Look at the view!

We can’t stop thinking about the prospect of: a serious session in the spa; some stone skimming in the harbour; leisurely sundown cocktails on the terrace; LOBSTER (yes, we have already perused the menu at the incredible looking new Upper Deck restaurant), lie-ins (such an alien concept – we’ll probably be up at 7am regardless!) and generally relishing 24-whole-parental-responsibility-free-hours.

Cannot. Wait.

Yes, I am being a bit gung-ho about this, in reality I will probably spend most the time wishing he was there and ringing for hourly updates but I whole-heartedly believe marriage should be given as much care and attention as parenthood – so this one is for the happy couple memory bank when we’re dealing with a screaming, teething toddler, come Monday.

I will do a full room tour and review of the restaurant and spa when we get back – but here’s a quick glimpse at one of the rooms…

*we will be staying as guests of the Christchurch Harbour Hotel on a DB&B basis.
