School’s out…and maybe the sun too.

This post has been lurking around in my archive for a while. Basically I figured I’d wait for the sun to shine before I did a post on sunscreen. The wait has been long my friends.

I wrote about my favourite sunscreen brands a while ago and although they work a charm on my already sun-blasted skin (sunscreen in rural France in the 80s was a rare thing), the credentials I look for in sun protection for Country Bebe requires a whole new post.

I sent a tweet out requesting ideas for all natural, sensitive sun-screen for our trip to Cornwall last month. I had visions of CB frollicking in the sand dunes and dangling his toes in the surf and wanted something chemical-free but with high-protection for his delicate skin. As it turned out sun damage was pretty low down on our list of worries, as we battened down the hatches and endured a tornado like storm for the duration of our trip.

Since then however we have had a few rare moments to slather him up and hit the beach and I cannot recommend Aubrey unscented All Natural Sunscreen in SPF30+ enough.

For me, the name alone ticks all the boxes that I require as a parent looking for sun protection for my nine-month old baby.

It’s a broad spectrum, mineral sun screen with organic green tea, shea butter, jojoba and sunflower oils, yet it is completely unscented. Unlike a lot of mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide content it applies like a thick, nourishing cream:

But after a couple of rubs it’s gone. No tell-tale white hue. Ideal if you’re trying to apply it to a wriggly, crawling little body:

It doesn’t leave him all slippery, which can be dangerous when they’re unsteady on their toes, nor does it leave that cloying film that so often can lead to heat rash.

You can buy Aubrey sunscreen (plus a whole host of other natural skincare/haircare products) direct from their site: www.aubreyorganicsuk.co.uk The sunscreen is £14.29.
