Birthday celebrations: a weekend in photos

It’s been a four-day long birthday celebration in this little corner of Devon. And I ain’t complaining.

I have been thoroughly spoilt.

My mother in law sweetly got me this huge bouquet, filled with our wedding flowers.

Clockwise from top:  A gorgeous soft scarf from Kew that will look amazing with my parka; a little book of amazing Devon facts to remind me why I love my county when I’m having an ‘I miss London moment’; beautiful delicate earrings from Oliver Bonas; perhaps my favourite gift, a Ryan Gosling colouring book (more later) from Country Bebe; the beige box holds a Burberry lippie while the round pot is a gorgeous Korres lip butter (reviews coming up).

More pressies (I told you I’d been spoilt) left to right: Diptyque fragrance in Philosykos (I’m a HUGE fan of this fragrance house and this is my no. 1 scent. A green, wild celebration of the fig tree from the leaves to the bark and the sweet, milky fruit); Eve Lom cleanser (without fail my desert island beauty essential); an industrial bottle of GIN (I adore my father in law and our shared addiction).

We then escaped for only the third time since Country Bebe arrived and went for dinner a deux.

I got to wear my new cardi (it is true love in lambswool form) and roadtest the Burberry lippie.

We finally got to sample The Railway in Honiton with all its relaxed, Italian slant on amazing Devon ingredients thrown in a wood-fired oven, amazingness.

We are tickled pink, and more than a little relieved after a year of ‘meh’ meals out, to have found this place 15 mins from our front door. I’ll write a full review next week as it’s two minutes from the A30 and well worth the diversion for anyone doing the London-South West pilgrimage.

Then, to top it all off I went out drinking. Yes, drinking. Not to excess, but proper grown up drinks with a girlfriend, a good measure of pink wine and a sprinkling of bourbon. The Burberry lippie got another outing, as did my new favourite penguin shirt.

It’s been immense.

Another little tradition we have for the girls is using my angel cake toppers from when I was a child on their birthday table and their cake. I love to see how excited they get over seeing the 'new' angel each year. I am not sure just what we'll do for Baby L with this tradition just yet…

Such a sweet tradition! We have Christmas cake decorations from my childhood that we use every year and I love 'rediscovering' them. CF x

My favorite of all our birthday traditions is the birthday crown. You can see how I make them here. I really enjoy planning out and creating this special crown for the child's first sweet 16 birthday ideas. To think I will soon be doing this for Baby L!!!
