Buying gifts for men: a CF guide

So next week is the OH’s 30th AND his first ever Father’s Day. No pressure in the present department then.

We are going down to Cornwall for the big event, but I figured he needs a few things to open on the day. So here’s my shortlist of ideas for him, and any other deserving daddies next Sunday:

Gardeners’ mini 60 second fix for hands, £8, Crabtree & Evelyn, crabtree-evelyn.co.uk

This year the OH has discovered his green fingers, getting stuck into our new garden. This duo of cleansing hand recovery, to gently exfoliate away the dirt and soil from the garden, plus an intensively moisturising hand therapy will be a welcome addition to the utility room – and will mean my handbag supply stops getting pinched.

Grapefruit Cologne, £76 (100ml), Jo Malone, jomalone.co.uk

I have been buying him a bottle of Jo Malone’s Sweet Lime and Cedar every birthday since he stole my bottle from the launch party. And now they’ve discontinued it. I’ve never seen a macho, Italian male so close to tears over a fragrance. So, we are tentatively testing out the Grapefruit cologne as an equally fresh, citrusy alternative.

I’ve also bought him a Seed Voucher from the great Heritage and Heirloom seed company, The Real Seed Catalogue. OH is passionate about stocking our garden with traditional, British specimens of fruit, vegetable and flowers.

Bespoke Black City Calf flat card holder, £110, Anya Hindmarch, www.anyahindmarch.com

I think by 30 a man should have ditched his student, surf-label wallet for something more grown-up. Ahem. This personalised, slimline card holder from Anya Hindmarch will be the perfect memento for OH’s first Father’s Day.

Samuel deck loafer, £125, Fins for him, finsforhim.com

The OH hasn’t taken off his dove grey George suede loafers from Fins since he unwrapped them at Christmas, these casual deck loafers are a perfect summer update.

Right, now all I’ve got to do is make a birthday cake in the shape of a classic mini… Wish me luck.
