CF Review: Wild about Beauty SS13 collection – swatched

I think Louise Redknapp’s beauty range, Wild about Beauty, created with her pal/make-up artist Kim Jacob, could possibly be the beauty equivalent, in WAG terms, of Victoria Beckham’s fashion line. Even after the first collection was released last September I knew this was no celeb-endorsed token collection; the formulas were intelligent and multi-tasking (many contain skincare ingredients and all are paraben-free) with good quality, finely milled pigments and flattering, spot-on colours that layered beautifully. I’ve been wearing the Nutrilips lipstick in Bobbie pretty much consistently ever since.

So, when this little lot arrived on my doorstep last week, ahead of the March launch for the SS13 collection I was pretty excited. I’ve done a little Vine video to show you the whole range (it opens in a separate window):

Wild about Beauty SS13 collection

The new season’s products, the ‘Safari Nights’ collection, is a tight edit of pistachio greens, corals and metallics – there are three limited edition nail polishes, a nutrilips balm and Limited Edition Safari Nights Palette. Here are some swatches:

The Camellia nutrilips balm (£14) is a Shea Butter and Vitamin E formula with a good shot of colour, too. This has swiftly become a Parka pocket staple – hydrating and prettifying in one sweep – you can tell Redknapp’s a mum.

I love all three of these lacquers equally. The pistachio green is surprisingly ‘neutral’ and flattering. The coral is almost neon, which doesn’t show up here and a real pop of colour for the summer. The burnished bronze reminds me of Tom Ford’s Burnt Topaz (at a fraction of the price), which I adore, a lot. All £9.

Here are the eyeshadow swatches from the Limited Edition Safari Nights palette (£29) first.

From left to right:

Powder eyeshadow in Aine; powder eyeshadow in Polly; creme eyeshadow in Edna and creme eyeshadow in Buster.

The whole palette is designed to be applied with your fingertips and the formulas are such that one sweep gives a veil of colour, while a more intense look is achieved by layering, blending and combining the interchangable colours. I can genuinely say I can see myself using up every product in this palette which is SO rare, I find.

Under the eyeshadows are are a multi-purpose tint (it is quite dark on my pale skin so I would use it as a glossy eye colour or lip tint rather than as a highlighter) and another of my favourite Nutrilips formulas in Sasha – a great mink-y nude.

The two larger bricks are a powder blush (here is where a brush would have come in handy) in a burnt coral that is soooo flattering and a creme bronzer that blends to give the merest hint of tan. Love, love, love it.

Here is the full look:

You’ll have to excuse the ridiculous expression, I had a toddler wrestling me for the iPad just out of shot. But I hope you can see the warm, metallic, coral tones. I really love how flattering, skin-enhancing and classic this palette is. No gimmicks, no cobalt blue or neon orange, just really wearable shades in great formulas.

The new range launches March 2013 (I’ll update nearer the time with an exact date), with £4 from each palette sold going to the Born Free Foundation. wildaboutbeauty.com
