Today I set up a JustGiving page: the Mark Williams Memorial Fund.

My daddy was a tireless campaigner (namely for improving Dementia services in the South West) and chairman of a number of committees that spearheaded advances in treatment in mental health in the elderly. While president of Rotary he helped raise funds to re-build a school devastated by the tsunami in Thailand and, in a bittersweet sense of karma, supported the local hospice who looked after him so incredibly in his last few days.

It is this charity, Hospicare Exeter, that we will be supporting, in Daddy’s name. Today is Day One, there are loads of plans on the horizon for ‘daddy appropriate’ fundraising events – needless to say there will be no running marathons or bike rides – Daddy was a Welshman of academic pursuits, with a love of cake and singing. A charity rugby match perhaps? Or an afternoon tea party accompanied by a Welsh Male Voice choir? All I know is that Daddy’s amazing capacity to raise funds to improve the lives of others will live on…
